Malacca Streets
Malacca seemed to have many charms and though a fleeting visit gave us a good overall impression, I was sure that the "lived-in" and laid back feel would make it an ideal place to spend an inspiring few months.

The historic port city seemed to be quite compact, with even the dirt adding positively to the vibe of the city. I had a feeling that there was lots of depth and culture waiting to be explored. Throughout our exploration of the streets, here are some of the things we saw.

Filming in Malacca
During one of our late afternoon strolls around historical Malacca, just west of the river, we came across some filming taking place. Anyone who has worked in film or tv knows that it can be quite boring waiting around in between scenes. But the glamour and excitement is also palpable, and so we approached the scene with interest.

The camera was actually shooting down a cordoned off part of a large street, next to some picturesque building facades.

Malacca River Walk
Inspired by our Malacca River Cruise, Linh and I decided to walk back down the Malacca River to explore part of the route in more detail.

Malacca River Cruise
Linh and I opted to take the Malacca River Cruise, especially since it cost a paltry RM10 (£1.75) each for a half hour journey up and down the route.

It gave us a chance to see some architecture along the river and though it wasn't always picturesque, still turned out to be a leisurely way to sight-see.

Malacca Maritime Museum and Naval Museum
Located along Jalan Quayside, we couldn't miss the Maritime Museum contained in a replica of the Flor de la Mar, a Portuguese vessel that sank off the Malacca coast while trying to transport Malaysian treasures back to Europe.

We popped into the Naval Museum first however, which is in a block next to the ship. We actually entered through a side gate not realising there was ticket booth and main entrance to consider!
