Theme restaurants aren't new of course, but the weirdest one I'm ever come across has got to be the Taiwan-originated Modern Toilet. Interiors, furniture and serving dishes all resemble some aspect of the bathroom as this chain takes the restroom out into the eating area.
There are two branches of Modern Toilet in Hong Kong, one in Mong Kok and the other we went to in Causeway Bay. With this level of quirkinest nearby, we had to check it out.
The mall space connects the two IFC towers and though I can't admit to anything being particularly spectacular within its retail space (all the shops inside seem to exist in most other shopping areas), the fourth and top floor does have an accessible roof garden.

The 28th May, a Thursday, was a public holiday in Hong Kong. I thought this was a little strange, since people would still need to go back to work for one day on Friday. No long weekend for Hong Kongers!
Anyway, it was this day that Dragon Boat Racing events were being held all over Hong Kong it seems. Kowloon City was on our list to visit in Hong Kong, but we just hadn't got around to it since it's less accessible without an MTR station nearby. We've since found out we can get a direct bus (75x) from Tai Po in the New Territories - where we're living.
However, Mr. Chan invited us to dinner there and drove, which made it all the more convenient.

It's with some reluctance that we left Tokyo and flew back to Hong Kong in the last week of May, although truthfully, two weeks in one place for sightseeing was a little more than necessary. Coming back the first two weeks was a little confusing - I write about this on my personal blog at MarkWu.info.
However, at least there is cheap dim sum! Back in Tai Po, our nearest little town for all our daily shopping needs, a new, more modern-looking takeaway opened a few months ago. It's on a corner just off from the main Tai Po square.
In February 2009, Mark and Linh moved from the UK to the Far East to spend 16 months living in Hong Kong and traveling around East Asia. This website documents their journey.
