Sunday Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight - Performers and Entertainment
If all the creative work on display were not enough at the May 2009 Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight, then surely the performers were.

Peppered throughout the double floor space were several artist performers playing ad hoc gigs and art pieces to small crowds of onlookers.

Sunday Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight - Amazing Variety of Artist Work
With so many exhibitors and their work to see at the 29th Design Festa, held at Tokyo Big Sight, it was hard to find a balance between covering as much as possible and spending enough quality time at the stalls we found interesting.

Nevertheless, here are my highlights. They cover the range of creative work that I personally found interesting, but the diversity of styles at the Design Festa were more widespread.

Sunday Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight - Linh’s Big Hair
Linh wasn't sure what to expect from the Design Festa Art Event held at Tokyo Big Sight, since I'd mentioned that they'd be lots of design and crafty things to see. However, it didn't take long for her to notice a creative hairdressing space - the kind of exhibitor we weren't expecting.

After chatting with the (stylish) stylists there and hesitating (briefly), Linh decided to take the plunge and get her hair puffed up (not cut) for 1,000 JPY (£6.75). At that cost, it was inexpensive enough to try out the "big hair" image for a day.

Sunday Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight - Personal Creativity at its Finest!
One of my highlights during our two week stay in Tokyo was spending a day at the bi-annual Design Festa International Art Event, held at the fabulously named Tokyo Big Sight.

Design Festa only happens twice a year, the second time in November and so I was particularly happy that we were in Tokyo for the May event, which is actually the 29th such event to be held.

Saturday Ten Videos : Sanja Matsuri Festival Mikoshi Shrines Tour of Asakusa
On the third day of the Sanja Matsuri festival, about one hundred mikoshi (portable shinto shrines) from forty four districts of Asakusa were taken on an energetic tour of the town. I wrote about this in the Asakusa Mikoshi Shrines Carrying post. Below are TEN videos showing the mikoshi tour performed by different districts.
