Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight - Amazing Variety of Artist Work
With so many exhibitors and their work to see at the 29th Design Festa, held at Tokyo Big Sight, it was hard to find a balance between covering as much as possible and spending enough quality time at the stalls we found interesting.

Nevertheless, here are my highlights. They cover the range of creative work that I personally found interesting, but the diversity of styles at the Design Festa were more widespread.

Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight - Personal Creativity at its Finest!
One of my highlights during our two week stay in Tokyo was spending a day at the bi-annual Design Festa International Art Event, held at the fabulously named Tokyo Big Sight.

Design Festa only happens twice a year, the second time in November and so I was particularly happy that we were in Tokyo for the May event, which is actually the 29th such event to be held.

Shinjuku West - Hi-tech Toilets, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Jewelled Cameras
For our two weeks in Tokyo, we bought the Tokyo Lonely Planet City Guide. We usually get one of the Rough Guides, but the Lonely Planet edition was apparently voted the best guidebook by The Times and The Washington Post, so it tips us over.

I quite liked the format in the Lonely Planet Guide to Tokyo, since as well as the ubiquitous highlights section and fold-out city maps, the neighbourhood breakdowns suggest walking tours you can take to cover several sights in an afternoon.

Dong Trieu Ceramics and Pottery Village
After a fantastic day so far at Ha Long, we begin our journey on the road back to Hanoi, but we stop off at the Dong Trieu ceramics and pottery village. Its a place that sells all kinds of ceramics, embroidery and marble statues and at arrival, we enter the large showroom with all these goods on sale.

Everything gleams and is presented nicely but in contrast to smaller urban shops whose goods may be knock-offs coming from anywhere, you can be assured these are genuine, handmade quality handicrafts. That's because they are stamped with the place's name and you can go round the back to see the workshops where all the goods are made.
