Design Festa’s Permanent Site for Personal Art at Harujuku
Visiting the permanent Design Festa Gallery at Harujuku was almost like a pilgrimage since I loved our day at the huge bi-annual Design Festa event at Tokyo Big Sight.

We'd already seen photos of the place via all the marketing literature but still kept an eye out for the western entrance of the gallery which had a manic composition of red scaffolding bars all over it.

Top Japanese Treasures at the Tokyo National Museum
The Tokyo National Museum is billed as the place to go if visiting only one museum in Tokyo. It's akin to the British Museum in London and is made up of several grand buildings that contain the five galleries of historic pieces.

We originally planned on spending a day for our visit here but could only manage an afternoon, from which we were able to cover three galleries.

Rodin outside National Museum of Western Art, Ueno Park
The first time we arrived at Ueno station, we saw massive queues of people for a booth that turned out to be for the National Museum of Western Art. As we walked into Ueno Park, this museum was also the first one with saw, together with even more people queuing to get it.

It was with some relief therefore, that we had decided previously that we didn't want to visit the place. We were keener on the National Science Museum next door and the Tokyo National Museum a bit further away, but still within Ueno Park.

Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight - Amazing Cardboard City Model
One of the exhibitors at the May 2009 Design Festa (vol.29) was the creator of this mini cardboard city.

Though crude as a result of the corrugated texture, the model was still fascinatingly detailed, depicting several high rise blocks, complete with interiors and atmospheric back lighting.

Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight - Performers and Entertainment
If all the creative work on display were not enough at the May 2009 Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight, then surely the performers were.

Peppered throughout the double floor space were several artist performers playing ad hoc gigs and art pieces to small crowds of onlookers.
