Ximending Street Artists and having our portrait drawn

Wandering the streets of Ximending, we came across a line of (licensed - check their tags) artists touting their skills, not unlike those seen in other cities. There were only four that night however, each with a different skill, as if their pitch was carefully curated.

The first guy displayed colourful paintings of landscapes and Chinese (or Taiwanese?) figures whilst he sat and continued with his latest work of art.

The guy next door created silhouette portraits of posing customers out of red card. We noticed that the portraits that worked the best were the ones that included clear, bold features such as the hat this girl below was wearing .

A calligrapher creating colourful, illustrated script was nearby whilst lastly, there was a portrait artist rendering his pieces with marker pens.

We liked his sample portraits on display, which were "softly blended" with a hint of manga and decided to get our portraits done. You can see him in action in this video below:

Like all street portrait artists, the guy obviously spent more time and effort on his samples and we were bemused by his efforts on us. Each portrait took 20 minutes and cost NT$600 (£11) in total.
