World’s Largest Pendulum Clock at the Shinjuku NS Building
13 May, 2009 Wednesday
We peeped into the Shinjuku NS Building this evening before dropping back to our hotel since the place opens until late. It was purely to see the huge pendulum clock that we'd read about. And big it was!
The Shinjuku NS Building is hollow so that standing in the central 1600 square metre area allows you to look straight up at the transparent roof. On one side of this area, affixed to the building interior is the official world's largest pendulum clock.
It is a record-breaking 29 metres high and swings lazily as it counts time. I'm not sure, but I think it was hydro-powered judging by this water engine running underneath it.
In February 2009, Mark and Linh moved from the UK to the Far East to spend 16 months living in Hong Kong and traveling around East Asia. This website documents their journey.
