People Carriers in Bangkok

With the amount of traffic in Bangkok, I understood that the roads aren't exactly the fastest way to get around. Clearly, nobody is telling these people who are cramming onto the back of lorries to get around!

Seriously though, it seems like a common enough way to get around where comfort isn't exactly key. These guys in navy below look the part as they travel to or from work.

But all these people below, that we spied in the evening rush hour from our taxi? I wondered whether this truck-surfing is a paid service.
