Tokyo Midtown composes ultra-modern buildings to become possibly the only recent development that can challenge the nearby grandeur of Roppongi Hills.
Having only opened in 2007, Tokyo Midtown similarly features restaurants and retail, with art galleries and leafy spaces.
Linh and I visited Tokyo Midtown later in the day after Roppongi Hills and if the truth be told, we found it a little less impressive. (Possibly because we'd already been hit with the wow factor earlier that day.)
However, by anyone's standards, Tokyo Midtown should come close as it is still a spectacular complex to wander around. It's layout and architectural 'lines' were straighter than Roppongi Hill's, so our orientation was better and we found interesting shops for stationary as well as food and fashion.
With hindsight, we'd probably have visited Tokyo Midtown first before using up our energy at Roppongi Hills (or simply visit both on different days).
Here's a little video of the overhead structure in one part of the complex..
In February 2009, Mark and Linh moved from the UK to the Far East to spend 16 months living in Hong Kong and traveling around East Asia. This website documents their journey.
