Intimate Gojo Shrine with Red Bibbed Inari Foxes in Ueno Park
14 May, 2009 Thursday
During our time wandering around Ueno Park, we came across this intriguing entrance to a Gojo Shrine. The chain of red gates drew on my visual curiosity and I had to go down it to investigate!
This Gojo shrine was situated in an atmospheric and intimate feeling grotto, added to by the setting sun and the lack of crowds.
Of the few visitors, I was probably the only foreigner, with others making their prayers at the various shrines.
Gojo shrines house red-bibbed Inari fox statues and there were a few of these dotted around.
The place was a quick diversion for us, but definitely worth it to catch the last rays of the sun there.
In February 2009, Mark and Linh moved from the UK to the Far East to spend 16 months living in Hong Kong and traveling around East Asia. This website documents their journey.
